SATAN AND ANGEL

Satan is the symbol of the rebel and the wicked. There is no independent entity other than the wicked human beings and jinns considered to embody the idea of Satan or the devil. In fact Satan is the negative pole of the godhead.

Angels are innocent and pure invisible creatures endowed with consciousness who obey God's commands; they constantly praise their Creator and form the positive pole of the godhead.

Say: I seek refuge with the Lord and Cherisher of Mankind, The King (or Ruler) of Mankind, The Allah (for judge) of Mankind,- From the mischief of the Whisperer (of Evil), who withdraws (after his whisper),- (The same) who whispers into the hearts of Mankind,- Among Jinns and among men. (114/1-6)
In the case of those who say, "Our Lord is Allah., and, further, stand straight and steadfast, the angels descend on them (from time to time): "Fear ye not!" (they suggest), "Nor grieve! but receive the Glad Tidings of the Garden (of Bliss), the which ye were promised! "We are your protectors in this life and in the Hereafter: therein shall ye have all that your souls shall desire; therein shall ye have all that ye ask for!- (41/30-31)

Satan arouses in men unfounded suspicions, doubts and hesitations. Be it the jinn or the devilish human beings, they are agitators that incite them to put into action ill-conceived ideas. They deceive men and lead them to commit deplorable acts of which they often repent afterwards. They arouse in them suspicion as to the veracity of God's commandments and of the devotional obligations. The consequence of this is man's orientation to his perdition unless the angels divert them from the path to which they had strayed and cause them to resume the true path.

Angels often descend to believers. This is the reverse of the coin. God sends men His angels and manifest in them His positive power. This visit reinforces their spiritual forces and aids them.

Inspiration is a divine influence or action upon the lives of certain persons that is believed to qualify them to receive and communicate revelations. The person inspired by God is protected against all evil influences. Satan and Angel, potential forces coexisting in man. The conflict of these opposite forces continues in man's soul to the end of his life on earth. The future of the individual, whether he will be eligible for salvation or condemnation, will be decided according to the balance between his good deeds and evil acts. A parallel may de drawn to this pair of opposites in the confrontation of the nafs and the ruh. The subject is studied under three headings: namely,

Satan
Angel
Jinns
