PIETY

Those who abide by the commandments and injunctions of God as expressed in the Qur'an will be admitted in the Paradise; but those who desire to be blessed by God's special favor should follow the requirements that piety demands. Every Muslim ought to know what these requirements are and act accordingly. "So fear Allah as much as ye can; listen and obey and spend in charity for the benefit of your own soul" (64/16). Charity is the sine qua non condition of being eligible for becoming one if the inmates of paradise.

To fulfill the conditions of piety is the correction or regulation of oneself for the sake of improvement. The nafs, the source of all evil, has to divest itself from its impurities in order that it may be considered a candidate for paradise. The mystical union of mystics whose objective is to attain the state of the soul in union with God through contemplation; this is achieved by the ascent to heaven through quietude and prayer that purifies the nafs leading to the ecstasy where the presence of God is experienced directly and immediately.

"Those who believe and (constantly) guard against evil" (10-63) These are the people who have gained God's favor. We observe that there are two prerequisites for being on the true path; namely, A) Faith, B) Piety.
